Mr. Ray OSullivan Consultant Senior Lecturer Obstetrics and Gynaecology

ray o'sullivan

Mr. O'Sullivan qualified in medicine from University College Cork in June 1992. He initially trained in General Surgery for almost 3 years before embarking on his career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has worked in the main teaching hospitals (Coombe, Rotunda,Holles Street) in Ireland before spending almost 4 years in Sydney, Australia. There he underwent fellowship training in Laparoscopic Surgery under the guidance of the world renowned Sydney Women's Endosurgery Centre (www.swec.com.au). In addition Mr.O'Sullivan worked in the Urogynaecology Unit in St.George Hospital (www.pelvicfloorunit.com.au) completing a fellowship under the tuition of Prof.Kate Moore.

Following his return to Ireland he worked as Assistant Master in the National Maternity Hospital and then was appointed as consultant in Holles Street, The Rotunda and the Mater Hospitals. In 2006 he was appointed as Consultant Senior Lecturer and moved to his present location in St.Lukes in Kilkenny.

His main areas of interest are problems of the pelvic floor (prolapse and incontinence) and laparoscopic (key-hole surgery). In addition Mr O'Sullivan lectures Royal College of Surgeons undergraduates during their rotation to Kilkenny and along with Prof. Walter Prendiville is one of the Directors of the only laparoscopic surgical skills course for postgraduate training in Ireland, which has been adopted by several training programs worldwide.
